Governor's Chief of Staff Tony Babauta

Tony Babauta has confirmed with PNC News that he has resigned as the Chief of Staff to Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero.

His resignation comes in the wake of questions raised over his one-night stay at the Pacific Star Hotel.

Press secretary Krystal Paco San Agustin told PNC News that Babauta stayed at the Pacific Star last Friday night, April 24. She said Tony felt ill and checked in. On Saturday morning, he was cleared by the Department of Public Health and Social Services and he went home.

She declined to say who paid for the stay. And it’s not clear why he was not subject to the 14-day quarantine if he was ill.

In a brief statement this afternoon from Adelup, the Governor said Babauta resigned for personal reasons.

She thanked him for his service and appointed Deputy Chief of Staff Jon Junior Calvo to the position of Chief of Staff in an acting capacity.
