Guam – Senator Muna Barnes’ EMT-B Certification Bill No. 04-31 (LS) received support from the Guam Fire Department and the Guam Federation of Teachers during today’s public hearing at the Guam Legislature.
Bill No. 04-31 seeks to implement performance-based pay upon certification for firefighters employed at the A.B. Won Pat International Airport Authority’s Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Unit (“ARFF”) who become certified as Emergency Medical Technicians –Basic (“EMT-B”).  The present state of law provides the benefit of differential pay to GFD EMT-B certified firefighters, but does not include ARFF firefighters.

Senator Muna Barnes’ bill will correct the lack of parity in present law.  “Difficult economic times demand that every taxpayer expense is a taxpayer investment.  Bill 4 invests in our airport firemen so that those who receive special training and save lives get the pay they deserve.”
