Barnes, Pangelinan & Cruz Intro Bill to Approve Lease to Guam National Tennis Federation

Guam – Senators Tina Rose Muna Barnes, Ben Pangelinan, and Benjamin J.F. Cruz introduce Bill 116-31(COR), which will drive greater sports tourism to our island and provide better tennis facilities to the people of Guam .

The measure allows the Guam National Tennis Federation to lease Government land behind the Harmon Soccer Field to construct a multi-court tennis facility that meets the standard for international competition as prescribed by the International Tennis Federation at no cost to the people of Guam.

The construction of a comprehensive tennis center will promote Guam’s image as an international sports destination as well as provide a facility for the Guam National Tennis Federation to implement programs for the benefit of Guam’s youth and people at no cost to taxpayers.

Senator Tina Rose Muña Barnes is quoted in the release as saying: “As legislative oversight Chair on tourism and recreation, I cannot overstate the vital role sports tourism must play in our visitor driven economy.  Our weather makes Guam a perfect place for training camps and sports competitions year-round but we must build the facilities that make this possible. Our partnership with the GNTF provides us with that opportunity at no cost to our taxpayers. This idea belonged to the late Bill Camacho and those closest to him and I intend to see it through on his behalf.”
