Guam – Senators Muna-Banres, Respicio and Won Pat have introduced a resolution calling for support of a passenger ferry service between Guam and the CNMI.

Senator Muna-Barnes says that she has recently met with Rota’s Mayor, Melchor Mendiola, as well as meetings last month with the Mariana Islands Legislatures Association.

Senator Muna-Barnes says in a release that “a ferry or similar commuter vessel based sea route between the islands will be especially beneficial to the promotion of trade between Guam and the Island of Rota and expand the tourism market in both islands.”

And Senator Respicio stressed the need for a cost-effective alternative to air cargo saying “The addition of a commuter and cargo vessel service will provide farmers from Guam and the CNMI to be able to provide produce to both markets at better, more affordable rates.”

Speaker Won Pat said their Resolution is “another step toward greater cooperation between Guam and the CNMI ” and “moves us closer to “One Marianas.”
