A wedding is approaching at the UOG Calvo Field House as the cast and crew nears their last rehearsals for this weekend’s musical “Mamma Mia” and you ABBA-solutely cant miss it!
The award-winning jukebox musical, featuring the hit songs of ABBA, brings the magical Greek island tale to Guam. The heart-warming tale centers around Sophie, a young bride to be, and her quest to discover the identity of her birth father on the eve of her wedding.
This musical is produced by World Theater Productions in conjunction with Step Up Entertainment & Dance Company, and will benefit the UOG Endowment Foundation.
With only a few days left of rehearsals, PNC stopped by to chat with some of the cast members.
AJ Raphael, singer-songwriter and actor who is playing Sophie’s charming husband-to-be, Sky, encourages fans to come out.
“Everybody who’s coming out this weekend get ready for a great show with some music that you’re familiar with and maybe some talent that you’ve never seen before whether its local or off-island. And to my cast and crew love y’all! Thanks for the opportunity to be surrounded by you guys and I’m excited to get this one finished so I can go back home,” Raphael said.
Mikaela Oliva and Gabby Wannall, who were cast locally as part of the supporting actors in the musical, shares that the cast has good chemistry on and off the stage.
Cliffton Hall, who plays Sam Carmichael, and is a professional actor based in California, is no stranger to the stage. Based on his past experience, he refers to tech week as hell week.
“You know, usually the few days leading up to the opening night, it gets pretty crazy and hectic. But by the time we get to opening night were ready,” Hall said.
Hall invites the community to catch the musical for a fun-filled night!
“Come out, have fun, dance with us! You see the space? It’s a big space, there’s so much room to get up and dance and have the time of your life,” Hall said.
In just a few days, the UOG Calvo field house will be packed with Mamma Mia and Abba fans ready to watch the Mamma Mia production coming to you on stage from Sept. 7 through Sept. 9.
