Guam – In observance of Mentoring Awareness Month, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam will pay special tribute to two volunteers who have demonstrated exceptional service in mentorship. The recognition ceremony will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at the Nissan Showroom in Upper Tumon from 5-7PM.
Connie Moral-Mayers, a volunteer mentor to Little Sister Ashley since 2005, will be honored as this year’s Big Sister of the Year. J. John P. Ibanez, who has been a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters since 2006, is this year’s Big Brother of the Year. Connie and John have dedicated countless hours to their Littles, and both have helped enhance the mentoring program in special ways. Connie, through her employer Citibank, organized a movie screening for all the participants in the program. John, an employee of Bank of Guam, facilitated a weaving class for the Littles last summer.
Additionally, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam will bestow an Honorary Big Brother of the Year Award to Joseph Husslein for his efforts to raise funds and awareness for mentoring through the Little Big Ride campaign in 2010. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam salutes these individuals for their roles in shaping our island’s youth.
