Washington D.C. – Guam Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo joined Members of Congress on the steps of the U.S. Capitol Tuesday to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
“As we pause to reflect on the September 11 tragedies, we remember the innocent lives lost at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on United flight 93 that crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We also honor the heroism of the first responders who risked their lives to rescue and recover those caught in the wreckage. I continue to pray for the families and loved ones of the victims and all those who gave their lives selflessly,” said Congresswoman Bordallo. “Although it has been more than a decade, the images of that fateful day remain ingrained in our memories. I was serving as the Acting Governor at the time, and I will never forget the late night phone call I received from the Office of Civil Defense informing me of the shocking news.  The Guam Police Department and Airport Authority Officials helped secure our island and our Guam National Guardsmen provided increased security at our airport terminals. The tragic events of 9/11 changed life as we knew it, and our nation has remained resolute in ensuring that our country never again experiences another terrorist attack.

“On this day, we also honor the service and sacrifice of all servicemembers who have fought, and continue to fight, in defense of our freedom. These brave men and women are helping to keep our nation secure, and we must continue to support them as they return home.”
