Statement on the Senate’s Confirmation of Sally Jewell as Secretary of the Interior
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 11, 2013 – Washington, D.C. –
Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today issued the following statement on the Senate’s confirmation of Sally Jewell, chief executive of the outdoor retailer Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI), as Secretary of the Interior. She was confirmed with a vote of 87 to 11.
“Sally Jewell is an excellent choice for Secretary of the Interior,” said Congresswoman Bordallo. “I am confident that Mrs. Jewell’s industry knowledge and her love of the outdoors will serve the Department of the Interior well. Moreover, her track record as CEO of REI and her work with environmental non-profits and conservation groups proves her commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
DOI has purview over many insular issues relative to the territories and I look forward to working with Secretary Jewell on advancing issues for the people of Guam. I also commend President Obama for her nomination.”
