Bordallo Visits Guam Guardsmen Preparing to Deploy to Afghanistan

Guam – Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo went to Camp Shelby Mississippi to visit the nearly 600 Guam Guard members who are training ahead of their deployment to Afghanistan.

The Congresswoman said their moral is high and they’re confident in their abilities. She presented the Guard members with a Guam flag and “expressed to them the pride our entire island community has in them.”

“I will continue to keep these brave men and women in my prayers,” said the Congresswoman and “I join our island in wishing them, and all our service members who are serving overseas, a safe return home.”

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo recently returned from a Congressional Delegation to Camp Shelby, Mississippi, to meet with more than 600 soldiers from the Guam Army National Guard who are training for a deployment to Afghanistan. The Congresswoman met with the Guardsmen, who are a part of the 1st Battalion, 294th (1-294th) Infantry Regiment and F Company, 29th Brigade Support Battalion, and joined them for lunch, an assembly and dinner. She also received a briefing from 1-294th Commander LTC Michael Tougher.

“I appreciated the opportunity to meet with so many of our young men and women from Guam who are preparing to deploy to Afghanistan—the largest deployment of our Guam Guardsmen in history,” said Congresswoman Bordallo. “I learned about their preparations and their confidence in being able to carry out and accomplish their missions. Their morale is high and they remain confident in their abilities. I presented them with a Guam flag and expressed to them the pride our entire island community has in them. I will continue to keep these brave men and women in my prayers and I join our island in wishing them, and all our servicemembers who are serving overseas, a safe return home.”
