Breaking Wave Theatre Company has collaborated with AlterxEgo Entertainment and MacTech Guam to connect our island community virtually through the arts.
During each month of the pandemic, AltrxEgo entertainment has partnered with a nonprofit organization on Guam to help generate funding and awareness.
Breaking Wave Theatre Company is this month’s benefactor. It is a nonprofit organization that uses the arts to help foster a community of artists here on Guam.
Due to social gathering restrictions, both organizations have had to transition to virtual community outreach events, and are continuing their work through a livestream virtual dance party fundraiser called “Breaking Rave.”
According to Ben Schiff, the CEO of AlterxEgo Entertainment, this event will also help shift the negative perception of DJ-ing on our island, as local DJs donate their time and talent to benefit these nonprofits.
“A lot of people just think that they’re playing at the clubs or something like that… but our DJs are so much more than that. We have gotten huge support from other live musicians. This is the first time that we got extra DJs to join us from different communities,” Schiff said.
The virtual dance party will stream live from MacTech Guam and will take place on Twitch. Participants will be able to donate to a link before and during the event.
CJ Ochoco, Breaking wave President, said: “It is a virtual fundraiser, so we do have a donation campaign running online. Basically, people can donate to that link before and during the fundraiser for chances to get raffle prizes that have been generously donated by different community organizations and businesses. All of the funds will go towards supporting Breaking Wave’s 2021 season. Even with the pandemic going on, we have made an effort to continue our virtual arts offerings through online platforms as a way to engage with the communities during this difficult time.”
The virtual dance party fundraiser will take place on Saturday, February 20th from 7 pm to 11 pm on Twitch.
