Container with spiders released after successful fumigation

The brown widow spider is a 'cousin' to the more infamous black widow. Customs officers on Thursday found brown widow spiders within one of the containers arriving from Los Angeles, California.

Following the discovery of brown widow spiders in a shipping container from California, the Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency confirms that the fumigation and re-inspection of the vessel has proven successful.

According to CQA Public Information Officer Jessi Santos-Torres, three brown widow spiders were found in a container at the Jose D. Leon Guerrero Commercial Port last Thursday.

In response, the agency’s BioSecurity Unit was activated and since the fumigation was successful, the container was released.
