Calvo Says Stance on Guam First Commission Remains Same, Respicio Urges Him to Convene

Guam – Governor Calvo announced today via press release that his stance on the Guam First Commission has remained the same.

Throughout his campaign Governor Calvo promised to convene and empower the Guam First Commission. It’s a commission that was never convened during former Governor Camacho’s term. Senator Rory Respicio says he became concerned after he was told by Governor Calvo’s legislative liason Telo Taitague, that the Guam First Commission law needed to be revised. Today Calvo re-iterated his commitment to the commission and Respicio says he hopes he holds true to his commitment. “There shouldn’t be any more delay he should just convene the Guam first commission the issue surrounding the programmatic agreement should be an agenda item on that commission,” said Respicio.

Respico says that the Guam first commission would better represent the wishes of the people of Guam with regards to the programmatic agreement because it contains representatives from all branches of government including members from the private sector and indigenous rights groups.
