CARES Act funding now available for child care providers

Child Care Centers will soon be receiving much-needed federal assistance through a grant opportunity identified under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) will be issuing a Notice of Funding Opportunity for eligible sub-recipients of federal funding under the COVID-19 CARES Act Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF), Supplemental Funding Grant Award by the U.S. Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families (HHS-ACF).

Each sub-award opportunity will be made in an amount of up to $100,000.

“Indeed, child care and daycare centers are a cornerstone of our community—providing a critical service to working families everywhere. Without them, we could not possibly have a thriving economy,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “As we continue to face unknowns in the COVID-19 pandemic, and as we slowly work toward recovery, I hope these funds will help to mitigate any losses the child care community may have felt during the COVID crisis. I want them to know that our Administration remains committed to finding solutions that will balance the safety of our people and the recovery of our economy.”

Eligible sub-recipients include all licensed child care providers and license-exempt providers who have completed Child Care and Development Program requirements, who may or may not currently have enrolled CCDF families, and who are currently closed or reopened. There are currently 47 impacted licensed child care providers on Guam.

“We encourage all child care providers to apply for this grant opportunity and other providers who feel they may be eligible. We understand that these are challenging times and our team at Public Health and Social Services is dedicated to helping the people and families it serves,” said Art San Agustin, DPHSS Acting Director.
