Karate Tournament A Tribute To “Cal”

Guam-  Guam Kyokushinkai will be hosting the 1st Annual Carlos Palacios Memorial Tournament Saturday, October 16th, 2010 at the Guam Reef Hotel. 

This is the inaugural Kyokushin Karate tournament in honor the late Carlos “Cal” Palacios. Senpai Cal was a long time Kyokushin Karate instructor from the village of Yigo who passed away last year after bravely fighting cancer.  Palacios has been a long time instructor of karate and is remembered as a very generous and caring natured man.  He would even allow students learn the martial art if they couldn’t afford it.

Over 30 fighters are expected to participate in various age and gender categories. This event will feature full contact, karate knockdown rules set forth by the International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan. There will also be breaking, weapons and kata (forms) demonstrations.

Tickets are $10 in advance and are available at the Hagatna Martial Arts Center and The Guam Reef Hotel and $15 at the door. The event starts at 10 a.m.
