Guam – Vendor bid packets are printed and ready for pick up, according to Mayors’ Council of Guam president, Dededo Mayor Melissa Savares.

The bidding process will be held next week, Wednesday, May 8. However, participation in the pre-bid meeting is a requirement for prospective vendors. The meeting will be held on Monday, 5:30 p.m. at the Mayors’ Council of Guam main office in Hagåtña.

Savares, in an interview on NewsTalk K57’s Mornings with Patti, said the council needs to start moving quickly. By May 17, they would have to identify the vendor areas and start the permitting process for the booths.

But games of chance or the house of cards aren’t the only new features to look forward to this year, Guam’s 75th Diamond Liberation Carnival is also expected to be the greenest it has ever been.

According to Sinajana mayor Robert Hoffman, solar panels will be used to provide power at the carnival for the first time.

Hoffman said, “We are working on trying to get most of that carnival, if not all, to be running off the grid.”

He said they are working with Micronesian Renewable Energy to make sure the engineering side is taken cared of. MRE has already pledged to power up the carnival, according to Hoffman.

According to Savares, in addition to solar panel plans, vendors are encouraged to participate in the green movement by using recyclable cartons for their food products.
