With Christmas in just a few days and the new year shortly after, the Guam Police Department would like to remind the public to be safe as they celebrate.

At around this time of the year, with motorists rushing to do their last-minute holiday shopping, delays on the island’s roadways can be expected.

In addition, those who plan to party should make sure they take the right precautions so that they can drink responsibly.

As 2019 ends, the Guam Police Department advises the public to celebrate the upcoming new year safely, especially those who discharge their firearms.

Sgt. Paul Tapao, GPD spokesperson, said: “As we’ve seen before in the past, we’ve had injuries occur because of stray bullets and we want to prevent that. We just kindly ask that as we celebrate the holidays, to exercise caution and designate a sober, responsible driver and be patient out on the roadways. And we could get out of this holiday season safely together.”

GPD will have DUI checkpoints set up throughout the island over the next several weeks to ensure safety on the island’s roads.
