Guam – Speaker Judith T. Won Pat announced today that The guam Legislature is holding a series of events planned to help raise money to assist with the Japan recovery efforts. Members of the Guam Legislature along with Governor Eddie Calvo and other island celebrities and dignitaries will field a team of basketball players for the Guam-Philippines Celebrity Shootout 2011.
The teams will be comprised of several Guam Senators, Governor Calvo and other local dignitaries that will go head to head with over 15 Congressional Representatives from the Philippines. The match is tomorrow, March 26, 2011, 6:00p.m. at Okkodo High School.
Speaker Won Pat said, “This basketball tournament is a great opportunity to share camaraderie, foster good-will and friendship while engaging in friendly competition with our distingiushed guest, the Philippine Congressional Delegates. We are all neighbors in the region and as such, it’s important to assist in any way we can to help the Japanese people in the recovery efforts from the devastating tragedies their country is experiencing.
I encourage our community to attend as all the proceeds from the event, by donation, will be presented to the Japan relief and recovery efforts.” Won Pat stated.
