Police discovered that the videos were taken down from Facebook at a later time.
Guam – In this day and age social media is powerful medium which at times is used to promote disturbing and graphic videos and images, but thankfully there are organizations in the world who monitor and track down individuals engaging in the promotion of child pornography.
What would you do if you someone sent you a video depicting a child engaging in pornographic activity? Would you report it or would you share it?
If you chose the later then you have just contributed to the tragedy which is child exploitation. And whether you sent it or received it or worse shared it with others, if you don’t report it to local authorities you could end up behind bars. That is exactly what happened to two men who were Magistrated in court on Friday.
It all started when Parameswaran Somasundaram uploaded and shared a “known” child pornography video to his Facebook account. The video was 36 seconds long and the details of the video are too graphic to describe. But that video alerted Facebook to generate an incident data report which was then sent to the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children. In turn the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force referred the case to local authorities who then utilized information provided by Facebook and DMV to track down the suspects.
During the course of the investigation, authorities discovered that Somasundaram had sent the video to Sundram Allagan through Facebook Messenger and another individual only identified as Joann through Whatsapp.
While a search of Facebook applications on Somasundaram and Allagan’s cellphones indicated that the video had been deleted, a search of their phone’s electronic photo gallery did contain the video.
According to court documents, Somasundaram told police that he received the video from a friend who resides in Canada. However, that person has not been identified.
Somasundaram was charged with dissemination of Child Pornography as a first degree felony, while Allagan was charged with possession of Child Pornography as a second degree felony. They were booked and confined
