Incumbents Dominate Democratic Senatorial Qualifiers; However Turnout Relatively Low

348

Guam – In the Senatorial races, on the democratic side, incumbents dominated.

All the democratic incumbents finished in the top 15.

Speaker Judi Won Pat and Senators Muna-Barnes, Respicio and Ada  were the top 4 vote winners, in that order. The trailing incumbent, Senator Aadolpho Palacios, placed 10th, behind 2 new comers.

Corinna Gutierrez-Ludwig, a new comer, posted a strong showing as the fifth highest vote getter. Dennis Rodriquez placed 9th  in front of incumbent Palacios.

Here too however, democratic turnout was relatively weak.

The top democratic Senatorial vote getter was Speak Won Pat who, with 6,284 votes, would have placed 11th behind Republican Vic Gaza’s 6,601 votes if she had been on the Republican ticket.

Analysts Mike Phillips and Phil Flores both pointed out that, unlike the competitive Calvo-Cruz race on the GOP side, the lack of any competition at the top of the democratic ticket probably kept some voters home.

Those who did not make the cut on the democratic ticket were Phillipe Cruz … Jonathan Carriaga … Tomas Fejeran … and Robert Benevente.
