Church sex abuse victim fondled in locked closet

The victim was only 6 or 7 years old at the time.

Guam – The latest sex abuse lawsuit against the church may involve the youngest alleged victim. It was filed by a man with the initials R.A.J. who says he was only 6 to 7 years old when he was molested.

R.A.J. is now 62 years old and says the abuse happened in the early 1960s at the San Vicente Catholic School in Barrigada.

R.A.J. recalls sneaking out of school to buy some snacks at the nearby Aguon Store but was caught by a nun who worked at the school. R.A.J. says the nun punished him by locking him in a closet for several hours.

But it was during this time that the victim alleges the late Father Zoilo Camacho opened the closet door and began fondling him. Camacho, however, didn’t remove the boy from the closet and, according to R.A.J., continued to keep him locked inside.

The boy’s grandmother eventually went looking for him when he didn’t come home from school. R.A.J. recalls his grandmother “pinching the nun after the nun retrieved R.A.J. from the closet and his grandmother told the nun, ‘don’t ever do that to him again!'”

R.A.J. is seeking $5 million in damages. This is now the 110th lawsuit filed against the Archdiocese of Agana.
