GPA acting General Manager Melinda Camacho says that Cabras 1 will be back online and contributing 60 megawatts by Friday.
Guam – GPA has issued a load shedding schedule for September 8. The schedule is attached to the story. GPA acting General Manager Melinda Camacho says that Cabras 1 will be back online and contributing 60 megawatts by Friday. Work on Cabras 2 has yet to begin as crews are still cooling down the affected boiler tube. Earlier Wednesday Camacho, along with members of the Consolidated Commission on Utilities, met with Governor Eddie Calvo to discuss the state of the islands power grid. Calvo spoke to PNC.
“It was a very fruitful discussion so again there is some work that’s been done. We are looking at Friday, where there will be a stabilization of the power generation capacity that will hopefully take some of the pressures off all of this community but the important thing was to again for this communication dialog to occur between my administration and those who are responsible for power generation,” said Calvo.
Camacho says GPA is working with the Navy Orote plant, utilizing the interruptible load program and putting GWA water wells and pump stations on backup generators in an effort to conserve power.
