Simon Sanchez High, Already Closed for Repairs, Hit by Vandals

Guam – Simon Sanchez High School, already under a closure order by the Department of Public Health for failing inspection, was hit by vandals overnight. The damage isn’t likely to delay efforts to re-open the school, Assistant Principal Rebecca Duenas told PNC today.

The vandalism was discovered by staff this morning [Wednesday].

Duenas says it appears that the vandal or vandals entered through the storage area.  Once inside the school an Assistant Principal’s office and the Counseling Office were targeted.  Some files kept in the Assistant Principal’s office were set on fire but Duenas didn’t know what the records were of.  She said the fire was put out with a fire extinguisher before the perpetrator(s) left the facility.  Both offices were also tagged with Graffiti.

Public Health Officials shut down Simon Sanchez High School earlier this month after the school failed its 6th Health and Safety inspection.  Department of Education Officials are working to have the school re-opened by the start of the Fall Semester.
