The CNMI Department of Public Safety announced today that a dead body was found two days ago on Monday, November 25, in the Bird Island area of Marpi.
The body was discovered by a group of hikers who called 911 at 2:16 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the CNMI Department of Public Safety.
Police and medics from the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services found the victim lying face down and in an advanced stage of decomposition.
Due to the condition of the body, identification of the victim could not be determined. No identification was found on or in the vicinity of the body and it’s not known whether the victim was a man or a woman.
The body was processed by Crime Scene Investigators and transported to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation morgue. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at 5:08 p.m. Monday afternoon by Dr. Rodney Klassen.
The cause of death has not been determined and the Criminal Investigations Bureau has asked for an autopsy to be performed.
This case remains open and is pending further investigation.
