More than $50 million in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation payments have been distributed to eligible claimants in the CNMI as of this week.

According to the CNMI Department of Labor, the claims that were processed for payouts were those that were complete and without issues.

Personnel from other Commonwealth departments and agencies were shifted to the Department of Labor to assist in the processing of the unemployment claims.

The CNMI Department of Labor —- through its Benefits Payment Control Unit — also collected more than $100,000 in PUA and FPUC overpayments from ineligible CNMI-Only Transitional Workers.

The transitional workers are part of a visa program in the CNMI that allows employers to hire workers who are ineligible to work under any other nonimmigrant worker categories.

To date, the department reported that 59 out of 75 identified individuals have returned their PUA/FPUC benefit payments.
