CNMI honors men and women who sacrificed lives for freedom

CNMI officials paid tribute to the men and women in uniform who laid down their lives for freedom and who contributed to the protection of the Marianas.

CNMI Governor Ralph Torres and other officials in the CNMI issued Memorial Day statements Monday, urging the community to take time to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Torres and Lt. Governor Arnold Palacios paid tribute to the men and women in uniform who laid down their lives for freedom and who contributed to the protection of the Marianas.

Today, a group of people gathered at the Veterans Cemetery in Marpi, Saipan to observe Memorial Day.

The officials say they salute every soldier who served to protect the islands and that the fallen heroes have given them the opportunity to make the Marianas better for generations to come.

Meanwhile, Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang also commended the servicemen and women who are still fighting and defending to protect and preserve democracy and world peace.

He said: “We will always remember and pray for them and their safe return.”
