CNMI prohibits alcohol sales on election day

The CNMI Department of Commerce, through the Division Alcoholic Beverage & Tobacco Control gave notice that alcoholic sales are prohibited in the CNMI from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2020, pursuant to CNMI law.

In accordance with 4 CMC, Subsection 5557(a), an on-sale or off-sale licensee shall not sell or serve alcoholic beverages on any island where an election is in progress during the hours when the polls are required by law to be opened for voting, except as otherwise provided.  This prohibition shall apply from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on November 3, 2020.

Furthermore, in accordance with 4 CMC, Subsection 5557(b), the prohibition with respect to the sale or the serving of alcoholic beverages whenever an election is in progress during the hours when the polls are required by law to be opened for voting shall not apply to on-sale licensees operating within the sterile passenger holding areas at commercial airports, hotels, hotel resorts, golf resorts, casino resorts, and any licensee operating at Managaha island, within the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
