In observance of Family Violence Awareness Month, the Guam Coalition Against Sexual Assault & Family Violence has a number of activities for anyone who wants to show their support.
For the month of October, coalition executive director Cynthia Cabot lists what the non-profit organization and their partners have in store to help raise awareness of domestic violence. She is inviting island residents interested in helping them to help address this recurring social issue.
“Guam Family Justice Center Alliance will be doing quite a number of fitness challenges and that’ll be virtual. They’ll be utilizing Facebook for example to do that and we also have our Wear it, Share it, Post it campaign. So during the month of October, wear something purple to recognize that and to be in alliance with us. Your audience may be able to see us also as we also do waves in the villages,” Cabot said.
For those who want to join in but stay indoors, the coalition also has the Purple Pumpkin Day where families can paint, draw, and color a pumpkin purple, have it displayed on their homes, and post then it on social media on Halloween.
If you or anyone you know is a victim of domestic violence, check out the coalition’s online directory at pacificregionrescources.org. Also, contact VARO’s 24-hour service hotline at 477-5552.
