Congressman Michael San Nicolas has urged the Governor to declare Guam in disaster status in order to unlock special FEMA and SBA aid that require such designation.

Guam Congressman Michael San Nicolas issued a release Friday saying with recent confirmed cases of coronavirus in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, he’s decided to forego traveling to Guam during the month of March. He added that he will re-evaluate his future month travels as well.

In the release, San Nicolas said, “the last thing I want to do is expose our people to any coronavirus risk that I may be exposed to here in DC, with Guam continuing to have no confirmed cases.”

“We will continue the work here to marshall additional federal support to combat the pandemic, and will coordinate closely with Guam District management to ensure constituent needs continue to be met with proper health and safety protocols in place,” the Congressman added.

“Keeping our people safe and reducing exposures as much as possible must be a priority of ours, and we will continue to do our part.”
