“The United States stands by South Korea, and Guam will continue to play an important role in supporting our allies in the Asia-Pacific region.” – Congresswoman Bordallo.
Guam – Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo is calling North Korea’s rocket launch this weekend “nothing more than a provocative act masked to test a long range missile with offensive military implications.”
CNN is reporting that on Sunday North Korea announced that it had launched a satellite into space however many countries and even the United Nations are condemning this launch as they believe it is nothing more than a guise to test it’s ballistic missile capability. Last month North Korea purportedly tested a hydrogen bomb. According to a CNN article an emergency meeting of the U.N.’s security council was held on Sunday and in that meeting the council strongly condemned the launch and reaffirmed that “a clear threat to international peace and security continues to exist, especially in the context of the nuclear test.” In a release Congresswoman Bordallo stated that “The United States stands by South Korea, and Guam will continue to play an important role in supporting our allies in the Asia-Pacific region. I am confident that our island remains safe from any threats from North Korea. However, we must do more to encourage China and Russia to act responsibly and encourage North Korea to dial down their provocative actions.”
