Congresswoman Bordallo says Section 30 money is available for war claims

Guam’s former delegate to Congress, Madeleine Bordallo, said H.R 1365 will most likely not pass its upcoming mark-up hearing.

Guam – Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo issued a statement today saying that war claims funding will be available for Guam when the program filing period ends on June 20th 2018.

The Congresswoman says that while she is still committed to finding an alternative funding source that will hold Guam’s treasury harmless, Section 30 funds will be available to pay out Guam war claims. Section 30 funds are funds remitted to Guam from the taxes of federal employees who live on Guam. The Congresswoman is quoted as saying “I share the strong concerns in our community regarding the use of section 30 funds to pay claims but this was the only way to advance this bill given house Republican budget rules and strong opposition by senate conservatives who objected each time this bill was considered on the senate floor.” she adds that “I do not want our manamko’ to be concerned that they will not receive their claim after waiting more than 70 years.”
