Guam – PNC has learned that a construction worker by the name of Jay Darrel “JD” Wasisang, 31, was injured while working in a construction site in Mangilao.

A relative tells us that Wasisang was accidentally struck in the head by a backhoe. The operator of the backhoe apparently was not aware that Wasisang was in the way. The relative tells us that a coworker tried to warn the victim but by then it was too late.

The victim was taken to the Guam Memorial Hospital but succumbed to his injuries Monday morning.

Guam Fire Department Spokesman Kevin Reilly confirms that the incident occurred on Sunday at 4:20 p.m. at a construction site on Palomares Street. Reilly adds that the patient was unresponsive when GFD personnel arrived and was transported to GMH with medic and ALS personnel. But further details could not be disclosed at this time.

The name of the construction company has also not been disclosed.

Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola is expected to perform an autopsy today.

It’s not clear if OSHA will be conducting an investigation into the case.
