Contact tracing for COVID-19 positive members of church group

The Department of Public Health and Social Services has already identified 11 positive COVID-19 patients who are connected to the Iglesia Ni Cristo.

During the Governor’s daily COVID-19 press conference Wednesday, April 8, Public Health Director Linda DeNorcey said health professionals are still conducting contact tracing procedures to identify others who may have come into contact with the members of the INC.

According to DeNorcey, Public Health was able to access a church attendance list with the names of 300 members from the different congregations on island.

The religious group has local congregations in Harmon, Mangilao, and Yigo.

“Yes, we are able to access the attendance list. We gathered about 300 people that were on that attendance list. We are pending one more which is the Mangilao listing. Once we get that, we have the full-blown list,” DeNorcey said.

She added: “We have already identified 11 positive COVID-19 patients affiliated with the Church. And we are doing all the investigations. Our team is doing that as we speak.”

According to DeNorcey, Public Health met with members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo yesterday and also this morning. She said they are planning to contact all of the members of the church.
