Guam – It’s the second attempt to smuggle contraband into the Department of Corrections in less than a week.

On New Year’s day special operations officers with DOC discovered a package had been thrown over the fence just after midnight.

According to DOC Director Tony Lamorena, the package contained marijuana, chewing tobacco, and methamphetamine. The package was discovered along the fence line behind the dome housing units, at this time no arrests have been made as Lamorena states the package had no identifying marks.

The area the package was found is a common area that smugglers utilize in hopes of sneaking the contraband into the facility as its proximity to the road makes it an easy area to throw packages over the fence line.

Lamorena shares that surveillance cameras have been installed and the prison is now waiting for a purchase order for supplies to complete the wiring job. Once completed Lamorena hopes that the cameras will help to reduce the amount of throw in attempts as well as capture those involved with the promotion of major prison contraband.

The case is being investigated by GPD’s Manadan Drug Task Force.
