Guam- The Department of Public Works pilot recycling program is off to a successful start.
According to Solid Waste Division Administrator Linda Ibanez, they already completed the distribution of 1,000 carts to the north, central and southern areas. With 3 different types of curbside pick up schedules, Ibanez says the participating homes are responding well to the pilot program.
Guahan Waste Control is contracted by solid waste to sort out recyclable items for one year. Depending on the success of the curbside recycling program, it may be implemented island wide.
“There’s an overwhelming response from those participants” said Ibanez. “They’re recycling. We see a lot of them recycling and they’re not contaminated. So that means it’s a good sign that people are following the procedure in what to throw into those recycling carts.”
