Curfew bill defeated 3-12; Governor loses bid for tougher social distancing authority

778

Guam lawmakers this afternoon rejected the Governor’s request for the authority to declare a curfew for adults to help enforce the social distancing mandates she has ordered to fight the spread of the coronavirus.

Only three senators voted in favor of Bill 335-35, 12 voted against it.

The only three senators who voted for it were Senators Amanda Shelton, Telena Nelson, and Speaker Tina Muna Barnes.

The other measure that the Governor had hoped for, Bill 334, was sent back to committee earlier this week and never made it to the floor for a vote.

It would have given her the authority to impose fines on people violating stay-at-home orders.
