The director of the Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency has been arrested. Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero confirmed his arrest this morning but shared few details of the incident.
Ike Peredo was tapped by the governor to be director of GCQA and he was tasked to lead the agency. However, an incident that occurred last night has him sitting on the sidelines on administrative leave.
The governor’s office confirmed in a statement this morning that a report was filed with the Guam International Airport Authority Police which states that the customs director was in a physical altercation involving a customs officer.
While Peredo was arrested, the Department of Corrections does not have record of confinement indicating that Peredo was released from police custody.
With Peredo on administrative leave pending the investigation into the incident, the governor has temporarily placed Jesse Mendiola of the Marianas Regional Fusion Center as acting CQA Director.
The investigation is ongoing.
