Defendant in DOC contraband case still missing

Lian Cabrera is the last of 11 defendants named in an indictment by a grand jury for her involvement in the Department of Corrections conspiracy to smuggle contraband into the Mangilao compound.

Where in the world is Lian Cabrera? While months ago the Office of the Attorney General indicated that Cabrera was picked up in Texas by federal authorities, it appears that local law enforcement and the Judiciary are still in the dark regarding her whereabouts.

Cabrera is the last of 11 defendants named in an indictment by a grand jury for her involvement in the Department of Corrections conspiracy to smuggle contraband into the Mangilao compound.

According to Superior Court Judge Anita Sukola, this presents a problem in the case as the 10 individuals who have already reached resolutions can’t have their cases closed unless Cabrera’s case is severed.

And there is another issue. Because Cabrera has been on the run since her pre-trial release, she has yet to be appointed legal counsel.

Sukola says she will appoint an attorney on October 31st, at which time she will also provide an update on resolutions reached in the case.
