Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) Director Linda Unpingco-Denorcey is off-island to attend the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) 2019 Annual Meeting and Policy Summit in Bethesda, Maryland.

While there, Denorcey will be meeting with experts from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Health Resources and Services Administration, and ASTHO Board of Directors to discuss a variety of health issues, including Guam’s request for technical assistance and additional resources for the dengue cases currently affecting the island.

The meeting will also tackle global health threats, emerging and zoonotic infectious diseases, and public health preparedness.

According to Adelup, Denorcey has spent a lifetime in public health and can draw on personal relationships built during her long career.

Laurent Duenas, who is temporarily taking over as acting DPHSS director, is a professor, nurse, and public health professional with years of experience in community surveillance practices.

Both the Director and Deputy remain in constant communication with the existing response team, DPHSS assured.
