The design work for a brand new Simon Sanchez High School is just one step away from being approved.
Guam Department of Education Superintendent Jon Fernandez touched base with the Attorney General’s Office to see the review progress of the contract Wednesday morning.
Fernandez says that in order for them to move forward to the design phase of the new high school’s rebuild, they need the signatures of both the Attorney General and Governor before Sept. 30.
“Once they finish and sign off and everything’s good to go, I’m sure the governor would want to move forward with this important phase of the project,” Fernandez said.
He added that the firm doing the design would have to come in and work with the Simon Sanchez community on a design that meets the needs of the community and the students and employees who will be there on a day to day basis.
“As for the phase that comes after the design, once the design is almost completed, we plan to procure the construction and financing services for the next phase of the re-construction,” Fernandez said.
He added that from that point on, there will be a competition among the companies that will take the design, have it completed, and build what will be a good value and good deal for GDOE.
