DISID Names Guam DOE Employer of the Year; Benevente Teacher Gets Emploee of the Year


Guam – The Department of Integrated Services for Individuals with Disabilities (DISID) has named the Guam Department of Education recipient of its “Individuals with Disabilities Employer of the Year 2011” award.
The award was announced during the National Disability Employment Awareness Conference for employers, applicants with disabilities and service providers at the Holiday Resort last Friday, October 7.

DISID representatives will officially present the award to Interim Superintendent of Education Taling M. Taitano 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 12 in the Superintendent’s office, located on the first floor of the Administration Building in Hagatna. Media representatives are welcome.

This award is bestowed to DOE for the outstanding contribution and assistance, in one way or another, of ALL our DOE employees, most especially our teachers, Special Education department, staff and school administrators, as well as other individuals who have helped our students integrate into the workforce. DOE has helped these individuals become working citizens successfully contributing to the community.

The award also recognizes DOE’s contribution in employing individuals with disabilities.

DISID also honored Vicente Benavente Middle School Special Education teacher Chanda Leon Guerrero as “Individuals with Disabilities Employee of the Year 2011”. Ms. Leon Guerrero has been employed with DOE since August 2000. She is pursuing her master’s degree at UOG.
