DLS Zobel Takes Early Lead In Youth Games


Guam – Visiting schools from the Philippines dominated the opening day of the 2012 Pacific Asia Youth Games as De La Salle Zobel (DLSZ) trounced May 26 the Guam Okkodo High, 25-16, 25-17 to score early victory in the 14 and under girls volleyball division.

Succeeding games saw Guam’s Sta, Barbara Spartans and St. Paul warrior squaring off 26-24, 25-14 with the former in the narrow lead.

Confronted later by the DLSZ, Sta. Barbara Spartan vowed in defeat 25-9, 25-6 while St. Paul Warriors suffered the same fate before a more superior Okkudo Lady O’s, 7-25, 19-25.

In the men’s division, 16 and under, DLSZ of the Philippines successively edged Guam’s John F. Kennedy High, 25-17, 25-18; and George Washington HS, 26-24, 21-25, and 28-26.

Tomorrow’s games will match DLSZ versus Lady O’s for the championship, while Sta, Barbara will face St. Paul for the 3rd place.

Exciting matches are yet in store among teams from the competing Guam and the Philippines in sports soccer and basketball.
