The Department of Corrections has intercepted a package and prevented contraband from getting into the hands of inmates.

Local authorities are investigating contraband found at the DOC Mangilao facility earlier today.

In a release from DOC, Major Antone Aguon stated that packages thrown over the fence is a common method used by individuals attempting to smuggle contraband into the facility.

This, in part, is due to the proximity of the prison to Mai Mai road, which is frequently traversed by motorists.

To help keep a watchful eye on the prison’s perimeter the department has invested in surveillance systems dubbed the “bird in the sky”
