DOE Superintendent Forms Education Response Team To Address Safety Issues

Guam – Guam DOE Superintendent Dr. Nerissa Underwood has formed an “Education Response Team” to assess safety issues at the island’s public schools.

On the K-57 Breakfast Show this morning [Tuesday] Dr. Underwood said that the “Response Team” is being led by Acting FB Leon Guerrero Principal Erica Cruz and 2 other school administrators.

She said that the purpose of the Response team is to “conduct an assessment, overall, [on] the climate of the schools, and also specifically relative to the safety issues.”

Dr. Underwood said that the Team is speaking with personnel, educators students and parents. She said the team will provide their assessment to the Superintendent  with ” recommended targets date for action …hopefully by the  end of the week.”

The Superintendent said that she wants to assure the parents and educators that “we are there to provide support.” Underwood said that she met with school principals last Friday “to ensure that they comply with the mandate pertaining to the prevention of bullying and sexual harassment.”
