DPHSS – 263 New Cases Between January 15 – 17; 25 Hospitalized


Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported a case count of 60 new cases of COVID-19 from 250 specimens analyzed on January 16, 2022. An additional 203 cases were also reported today as a result of complete analysis and case submissions from other clinics for preliminary COVID-19 test results reported January 15 – 16, 2022.

Official case counts for the past weekend results are as follows:

● 328 of 2,042 test positive for COVID-19 (198 cases previously reported on January 15,

● 276 of 1,786 test positive for COVID-19 (203 cases previously reported on January 16,
2022). To date, there have been a total of 23,581 officially reported cases, 274 deaths, 3,896 cases in active isolation, and 19,411 not in active isolation.

Tiyan COVID-19 Outreach Moves to Appointment-Based Testing, Hours Extended

Community COVID-19 testing at the old carnival grounds in Tiyan, Barrigada has transitioned to an appointment-based system with extended hours. Unscheduled drive-ups will be accepted on a limited basis. For the safety of the community and swabbers, only four (4) adults per vehicle are allowed to be tested. Requirements for Minors to Receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine:

● Parent/legal guardian must provide minor’s birth certificate
● Parent/legal guardian must have a government-issued photo identification (ID)
● Minor must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
● Guardians must present legal guardianship or power-of-attorney documents

Guam COVID-19 Vaccination Update

As of January 16, 2022, a total of 131,898 of Guam’s eligible population (residents 5 years and older) is fully vaccinated. This total includes 13,007 residents 12 – 17 years old. 5,833 residents 5 – 11 years old received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech two dose series. 3,668 residents 5 – 11 years old have completed their two-dose series. An additional 145 residents received their booster shots and a total of 46,628 booster shots have been administered to eligible residents since September 29, 2021.
