DPHSS kicks off ‘Immunization Awareness Month’ with back-to-school clinic

In recognition of National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM), the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) will host a three-day, back-to-school walk-up immunization clinic at the University of Guam Calvo Field House in Mangilao on July 29 – 31, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or while supplies last.

The clinic will serve students 4 – 18 years of age who are uninsured or covered under Medicaid or the Medically Indigent Program.

Parents and participants must provide updated shot records to participate in this clinic. The varicella vaccine (also known as chickenpox vaccine), PPD skin tests (tuberculosis test) and physical exams will not be offered.

Students with private health care insurance coverage are ineligible to participate.

NIAM aims to raise awareness about the importance of vaccinating people of all ages against serious and deadly diseases.

The back-to-school walk-up immunization clinic will take place in a separate area of the Field House, away from the COVID-19 vaccination clinic. Students 12 years and older are eligible to receive the Pfizer-BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine and walk-ins are welcome.

The back-to-school walk-up immunization clinic is organized by DPHSS Immunization Program of the Bureau of Communicable Disease Control. For more information on immunization, call 671-735-7143 or visit dphss.guam.gov/vaccinateGU, getimmunizedguam.org/ or dphss.guam.gov/immunization-program/.
