DPHSS Receives Several Reports of Unauthorized SNAP Transactions

The Department of Public Health and Social Services is warning residents who are SNAP recipients to be careful when using their EBT cards.

Guam – According to a news release from DPHSS, several SNAP recipients complained that their EBT cards were used without their authorization or knowledge. The release indicates that on some occasions, the SNAP recipients’ benefits for the whole month were completely wiped out.

DPHSS says it might be as a result of recipients’ practice of manually keying in their EBT card numbers and PIN numbers when making purchases or sharing the information to other individuals.

DPHSS says to avoid similar incidents, SNAP recipients are highly encouraged to not allow anybody to see or know their PIN numbers when making transactions and to swipe their cards instead of having it manually keyed in.

DPHSS reminds recipients that they are not to sell, trade or giveaway their EBT cards and PIN. For more information, call the Program Administrator of the Bureau of Economic Security at 735-7354
