DPW’s Office of Highway Safety Gets $31K DOT Grant


Guam – The Department of Public Works, Office of Highway Safety has been awarded $31,799 dollars in Section 405 funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Section 405 funds are aimed at encouraging States and Territor5ies to adopt and implement effective programs to reduce highway deaths and injuries resulting from individuals riding unrestrained or improperly restrained in motor vehicles.

A release from DPW’s Highway Safety Office says that the grant monies will be used to enforce occupant safety programs.

The funds will be distributed to the Guam Police Department  and the Guam International Airport Authority Police Division so that they can continue their high-visibility enforcement operations throughout the island.

The release states that the funds will also be used to produce Public Service Announcements to educate the general public on the Guam Seat Belt Law, as amended, and to remind the general public to “Buckle Up…It’s the Law.” and “Seat Belts Save Lives.”
