Guam- The Governor’s Office has announced Dr. Anita Enriquez has been appointed to fill the final slot of the Guam Education Board.
Enriquez was appointed following the announcement that former Chuuk Governor Dr. Ancito Walter didn’t make the cut because he didn’t meet the U.S. citizenship qualification to serve in the board.
Governor’s Chief of Staff Frank Arriola says they are excited for Enriquez to bring her finance and education background to the table.
“Obviously we’re excited to have Dr. Enriquez on board” said Arriola. “We think she’s going to bring a lot of stability and leadership to the board.”
However, he also says Adelup and the legislature may look at modifying the U.S. citizen requirement in the near future. He states, “as we all know, there are a number of our Micronesian brothers who are attending Department of Education schools and I think it’s important to have their representation at the board level so we might be looking at some changes in that regard.”
Dr. Enriquez is currently the Dean for the University of Guam School of Business and Public Administration. Meanwhile, the education board is scheduled to meet on January 27 to discuss DOE’s budget.
