The island is mourning the loss of Pediatrics Specialist Dr. James Stadler, who passed away Tuesday evening. He has been a pediatrician for different generations of Guam patients.
His employer, TakeCare Insurance and FHP Health Clinic, issued a statement mourning his passing, saying “Dr. Stadler has been with the TakeCare/FHP family for more than 40 years. He was a long-standing member of the Department of Pediatrics at the Guam Memorial Hospital and served as an instructor for the Pediatric Advanced Life Support Program (PALS) as well as an advisor for the Maternal and Child Health (NCH) for the Department of Public Health and Social Services.”
The healthcare provider continued to state: “Dr. Stadler was a respected member of the medical community, a mentor and advisor to his colleagues and a beloved pediatrician to thousands of children. We will keep in our hearts the wisdom and joy he has brought to our lives, most notably with his patients who have become like family throughout the years.”
Guam Medical Association President Dr. Thomas Shieh also issued a statement on his passing stating:
“Dr. Stadler was a founding and loyal member of our Guam Medical Association. His passing was a surprise to many of us. His sense of humor was contagious as well as his love for his friends, family, and patients. Our medical community mourns this loss and thousands of patients are affected whenever one doctor passes. This is sad. But knowing Dr. Stadler, he does not want us to be sad, I can see that he would want all of us to carry on with our love for our patients and families and make sure that we treasure life everyday. We pray for him and his family.”
Additionally, GMH Administrator Lillian Perez-Posadas issued a statement to PNC stating: “The Guam Memorial Hospital would like to honor Dr. Stadler’s accomplishments. We will remember him as a heart-warming and inspiring doctor. He was a very compassionate and very kind individual who treated patients with dignity and respect and went to church. He was always very professional during hospital meetings and was always jolly. It’s a big loss for our GMH family, especially our nursing and pediatric services. Our condolences go out to his loved ones.”
Acting GMA President Dr. Hoa Nguyen says Stadler was an icon to all the physicians on Guam and a mentor to him. He also says Stadler was planning to retire at the end of the year.
“It’s a great loss for Guam. I tell you, he’s one of the best physicians and one that’s very caring. A great husband that supports the family 110 percent. We all lost a person from Guam that will not be replaced,” he said.
Stadler went to medical school at the University of Michigan. He just celebrated his 70th birthday on September 5th with his family and friends.
