Dr. Robert Leon Guerrero, a longtime pediatrician in Guam, will be serving as the Department of Public Health and Social Services’ (DPHSS) interim Chief Medical Officer. He has also been working with DPHSS as a Physician and Immunization Advisor.

“Dr. Bob has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience as a beloved pediatrician and immunization specialist. His contributions to healthcare are invaluable. As a seasoned public health practitioner, his seamless transition into the role means we can get to work immediately, especially during this critical juncture in the COVID-19 pandemic,” said DPHSS Director Art San Agustin. “We thank him for accepting this important position.”

Dr. Leon Guerrero has been practicing on Guam since 1984 and previously served as the Medical Director for FHP Health Center.

“I have lived and worked in Guam for most of my life and treating patients and educating them about preventive measures has been more than just a passion, it’s a calling,” said Dr. Leon Guerrero. “I hope to continue the legacy of my father, Robert E. Leon Guerrero, who served as the Director of DPHSS in the early ’60s. I also hope to continue the fine work of my predecessors, Drs. Cabrera, Dombrowski, and Manglona. For this opportunity, I am grateful to serve our island in this new way and I am proud to continue working with the men and women of DPHSS,” he said.
